Schwab Charitable™ leadership
Kim is president of Schwab Charitable, a non-profit, donor-advised fund provider established with the support of Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. to make charitable giving simpler and more tax-efficient for clients. She is responsible for the general management of Schwab Charitable and the fulfillment of its charitable mission, setting strategy and priorities and ensuring all contractual obligations and goals are met. Prior to joining Schwab Charitable, Kim held a variety of leadership, strategy, and general management positions at Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. Earlier in her career, Kim was a vice president for Citibank-Asia/Pacific and a Consultant for Bain & Company. She also has served on the board of the Educational Foundation of Orinda and as the head of its investment committee. Kim has been recognized by the San Francisco Business Times as one of the most influential women in Bay Area business. She holds a BA in economics and a BS in biology from Stanford University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Susan H. Heldman
Vice President, Accounting, Finance, & Tax
Susy oversees Schwab Charitable’s financial and accounting operations and is responsible for developing financial strategy. Prior to joining Schwab Charitable in 2000, Susy worked in controller positions in the oil and gas industry in Southern California and held leadership positions at major non-profit organizations in the Bay Area. She contributes her skills to a number of charitable organizations, including serving on the boards of the Northern California Club of Mount Holyoke College and the Daraja Education Fund. Susy formerly served on the Finance Committee for the Alumnae Association of Mount Holyoke College and the board of the Calvary Presbyterian Foundation. Susy enjoys using her vacation time to volunteer abroad, most recently in Argentina, Thailand, Fiji, and New Zealand. She holds a BA in Latin American Studies from Mount Holyoke College and an MBA from Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey.
Vice President, Business Development & Marketing
Fred is Vice President, Marketing and Business Development of Schwab Charitable, and is responsible for engaging and building relationships with donors, financial advisors and charities in order to help increase the impact and efficiency of giving in the United States. He has also led an innovative marketing, communications, and partnerships strategy that has established Schwab Charitable as a leader in the non-profit sector. Since Mr. Kaynor joined Schwab Charitable, annual grants have grown from less than $1 billion to more than $3 billion in Fiscal Year 2020. Fred brings over 20 years of financial services experience after holding senior-level positions at MasterCard Worldwide and Visa. Fred is actively involved in volunteer work, including past board service with Children's Council of San Francisco and the United Way of the Bay Area's Marketing Advisory Council, as well as various leadership roles with his local parish. He is a graduate of Boston College and a former Coro Foundation Public Affairs Leadership fellow.
Vice President of Operations, Service and Technology
Sam joined Schwab Charitable in 2018 as the Vice President of Operations, Service and Technology and brings with him more than 20 years experience. Sam was previously with TD Ameritrade where he held senior-level positions in Institutional Strategy, Operational Effectiveness, and Shared Services which included Project Management, Systems Strategy, Workforce Management, Business Intelligence and Human Capital Development. Most recently, Sam was responsible for the Enterprise Design utilizing his background in Lean Six Sigma to transform corporate processes, digital solutions and organizational structures. Sam is a graduate of the University of California, San Diego and holds a number of FINRA securities registrations (Series, 7, 9, 10, 63). Sam currently serves as a volunteer with Susan G. Komen.
Managing Director, Product Management/Marketing
Doug brings 15 years of experience in financial services and oversees strategy, product and project management for Schwab Charitable. Prior to joining Schwab Charitable he held a number of leadership positions at Charles Schwab & Co., Inc., including leading product teams in Fixed Income, Third Party Mutual Funds, ETFs, and 529 College Savings plans. Doug is active in the community and has worked on a number of public policy issues at the state and local level including water and energy. Doug also serves on the board of Second Wind Fund, a nonprofit working to reduce youth suicide in Colorado. Doug holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Colorado State University – Pueblo and an MBA from Colorado State University.
Michael Maestas, CPA, CFA®
Managing Director, Investment Oversight
Michael brings over 20 years of investment analysis and capital markets experience to Schwab Charitable as the Managing Director of Investment Oversight. He previously served within Charles Schwab & Co., Inc., as Managing Director responsible for Alternative Investment Due Diligence. Prior to his time with Schwab, Michael was a long/short equity analyst at Avalon Global Asset Management and was also the firm's CCO. Earlier in his career, Michael was an equity research analyst at Merrill Lynch and Bank of America Securities. He has also been an Adjunct Professor at University of San Francisco and St. Mary's College, instructing courses in Derivative Markets, Equity Valuation, and Advanced Financial Statement Analysis. He has an MBA from Columbia University, a BSBA in Accounting from Bucknell University, and holds both the Certified Public Accountant and the Chartered Financial Analyst designations.
